The Institute of Healthcare Management has underlined the essential role managers play in delivering health and social care in Northern Ireland.
At an Excellence in Management awards ceremony Jim McCall, Chairman of IHM’s Northern Ireland Division, said: “Health service managers don’t always get the recognition they deserve.
“They are often described as ‘suits’ and sometimes the public think they aren’t even needed when the truth is the majority have come up through professions such as nursing and social work and are using this valuable experience to support those delivering the hands-on care while making sure important targets are met.
The Institute supports, promotes and develops managers. Its annual conference this year focused on achievements in the new local health service structures where the watchwords are efficiency without compromise.
“Managers working in all parts of health and social care in Northern Ireland have continually demonstrated durability and a high level of dedication to delivering improved services to patients.” Mr McCall said.
“We were delighted to be associated with such a high standard of applicants for our awards.”
