The Centre for CPD for Allied Health Professions (AHP) was established in July 2005 as a business unit within the Beeches Management Centre. It is located in the Centre for Multi-professional Education and Training at Clady Villa on the Knockbracken Healthcare Park site.
The Head of the Centre is Fiona Hodkinson who was joined in October 2007 by Pauline McMullan who is the AHP CPD Co-ordinator. Janet Hodgen and Keith McKnight provide the administrative support for the Centre.
The role of the Centre is to plan and provide clinical and professional training and education for the following professions within health and social care in Northern Ireland:
- Dietetics
- Orthoptics
- Occupational Therapy
- Radiography
- Podiatry
- Physiotherapy
- Speech and Language Therapy
The work of the Centre is supported by an Advisory Group and includes representatives of the 7 professions above, the DHSSPS, the Beeches Management Centre and the Trusts. The Centre works in close partnership with the professions to ensure that the training and development needs of the AHP's are identified and addressed as it is the skills, experience and commitment of these staff that determines the quality of care provided to patients and clients.
The Centre is keen to develop a culture of life-long learning for all grades of staff within the Allied Health Professions and recognises the need for a range of both profession specific and inter-professional programmes. Trainers/Lecturers are sourced regionally, nationally and worldwide so that the most up-to-date information is available for all programmes. The range of programmes provided offer participants a variety of development opportunities and a mixture of learning methods are used in line with the Health Professions Council CPD requirements. Our programmes are provided at a number of locations including the Beeches Management Centre in Belfast and Craigavon.
Details of all programmes provided by the Centre are listed under the courses section of this website and applications are welcomed from professional colleagues working in the private and independent sector. Applications can be made manually by downloading and completing the application form provided or alternatively by booking on-line. Prices for attendance are available on request.
